Economic Logic of Sequels

Transformers Franchise Box Office Success

As shown by the chart, the Economic Logic of Sequels does apply to the Transformers franchise for the most part. The first three films show an increase in box office revenue until the fourth film which has an identical estimated box office revenue to the film prior to it. It is with the fifth and latest film in the franchise that the box office success of the franchise decreases as the fifth film manages to generate less than the original film. Perhaps the audience have grown tired of the films repetitiveness or maybe it is due to other film franchises drawing away the audience from the Transformers franchise.

The first three sequels may have had an increase in box office success due to reasons such as:

- Continuity and Narrative
- Successful Marketing
- Lack of Competition
- Managed to Target the Audiences' interests in a film
